School Resource Officer

The Canton, North Carolina Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of School Resource Officer.  This position is a full-time permanent employment opportunity. The Canton Police Department serves a rapidly growing community and requires Officers to be well trained and eager to keep pace with the ever-changing field of law enforcement.

Applicants must currently hold a general law enforcement certification issued by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the North Carolina Sheriffs Training and Standards Commission with at least two (2) years’ experience. Other minimum requirements for this position are listed below.  As a special condition of employment, this position requires the officer to successfully complete the North Carolina Justice Academy School Resource Officer certification class.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • High School diploma or G.E.D – College preferred.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
  • Must NOT have committed, been charged with, or convicted of any Felony.
  • Must NOT have committed, been charged with, or convicted of any Class A-1 or Class 1 Misdemeanors.
  • No Class 2 or Class 3 misdemeanor convictions within the past five (5) years.
  • Must pass a psychological evaluation (exceptions: CJ Certified Lateral Transfers).
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background investigation.
  • Must reside within 30 minutes of agency.
  • NC GENERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT CERTIFICATION with minimum 2 years’ experience required.
