Preventing Mass Shootings: A 5-Step Guide for LEA’s – SRLEEA member $179.00 

Designed for local law enforcement agencies and presented in partnership with SRLEEA, Preventing Mass Shootings: A Guide for LEA’s is an innovative four-hour course that presents a step-by step model to assist law enforcement agencies in determining if their jurisdiction may be facing a potential mass shooting.  This program provides attendees with the tools and proactive actions, they can be undertaken by LEAs’ to hopefully prevent a tragic loss of life.  In this course, attendees will learn specific methods to reduce the possibility of a mass shooting occurring in their jurisdiction. Focusing on a five-step model which includes: Information Gathering and Exchange, Threat Assessment, Location/Target Evaluation, Target Hardening, Resource Sharing and Coordinating a Proactive Response officers will be empowered with information and tools necessary to potentially prevent a mass shooting.

The Community Safety Institute (CSI) and the Small and Rural Law Enforcement Executives Association (SRLEEA) are launching the Specific Tactics to Enhance the Prevention of Shootings (STEPS) training series and certification course.   

This series is designed to provide LEO’s and their agencies with the information and tools necessary to enhance their ability to prevent school and mass shootings.  To ensure all LEO’s have an ability to receive this innovative instruction the series consists of both online webinars and in-person facilitated trainings hosted at regional sites throughout the country. The training is comprised of the following four school/mass shooting courses: 3 Steps to Preventing School Shootings; Preventing Mass Shootings: A 5 Step Guide for LEA’s; Mass Shootings: 6 Steps to Survival and Protecting Public Events: 4 Steps to Mitigating Mass Shootings.   

Session 1 – 3 Steps to Prevent School Shootings webinar (2 hrs.) $129.00 per person SRLEEA Member $99.00 

Developed for small and rural agencies who serve or assist with local school districts this two-hour course focuses on information gathering to prevent shootings and identify, assess and intervene with potential offenders through community engagement, threat assessment, threat management and proactive coordinated response.  

LEO’s will learn: 

  • How to engage their community and utilize social media information to uncover and thwart attacks
  • Understand the process of threat assessment.
  • Utilize tools for threat management and develop a platform for a proactive coordinated response to prevent school shootings.

Based on research of every mass shooting since 1980 and the actions taken and decisions made by victims of these horrific attacks’ participants will learn an easy-to-remember, six step model.  Course content will reveal if praying before a shooter is an effective tactic or if playing dead will increase one’s chances for survival.  

 This special life-saving seminar will present important information for all citizens including how to: 

  • Develop situational awareness skills to assist families in mitigating the damage from a mass shooting event.
  • Discuss a family emergency plan in an age-appropriate manner so everyone can be prepared.
  • Learn the ESCAPE Model of successful techniques that have helped others survive these horrific attacks.

Session 4 – Protecting Public Events 4 Steps to Mitigating Mass Shootings – webinar (2 hrs) $129.00 per person SRLEEA Member $99.00 

This training is specifically designed for law enforcement executives and their personnel who are responsible for planning and preparing for special events in their jurisdiction. Acknowledging that nearly 75% of all American law enforcement agencies are located in and serve small-to-medium communities, special attention has been given to the fact that limited resources are the norm rather than the exception. In this training LEO’s will: 

  • Learn a systematic process for planning and preparing for public events.
  • Understand the need for proactive planning and response preparation.
