Sheriff Scott Hable
Scott Hable is the 22nd Sheriff of Renville County, Minnesota since the Office was established in 1860. Sheriff Hable was first elected in 2010, and was reelected in 2014 and 2018. Prior to his election as County Sheriff, Sheriff Hable served as a 911 dispatcher, corrections officer, deputy sheriff and criminal investigator at the Renville County Sheriff’s Office and served as a narcotics agent for a multi-county drug task force in west-central Minnesota. Sheriff Hable is passionate about delivering excellence in public safety in the rural area. Grounded with a strong community-oriented policing philosophy, Sheriff Hable and his team most value community partnerships including those with other public safety entities, businesses, schools, civic organizations and faith communities. Further, overseeing a modern 72-bed jail, Sheriff Hable also has a special interest in collaborations with other criminal justice partners to make improvements in corrections and inmate rehabilitation. Sheriff Hable is active in the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association where he serves on the Executive Committee and chairs the Jail Oversight and Policy Committee. Sheriff Hable is also currently serving his second term as a board member of Minnesota’s EMS Regulatory Board, a position to which he was appointed by the Governor, and is a member of Minnesota’s Violent Crimes Coordinating Council, where he represents rural Minnesota Sheriffs. Sheriff Hable also serves on the National Center for State Courts’ “Rural Justice Collaborative Advisory Council”, a group of rural justice experts working together to identify best practices, which rural communities can replicate. In addition to his law enforcement degree, Sheriff Hable is a graduate of the 103rd Session of the National Sheriff’s Institute. Sheriff Hable resides with his wife and three children, is active in his church and volunteers in his community as, among other things, a Boy Scouts Scoutmaster, little league baseball coach, firefighter and advanced life support paramedic.
